I love all of God’s creatures, big and small, but I would prefer that some follow the social distancing rules like the rest of us! Just in case you haven’t seen these insect repellent luminaries on Pinterest, let me introduce you. They are festive and pretty and will bring your backyard escape up a notch. With all natural ingredients and the beauty of nature itself, you can enjoy the outdoors with comfort. These are so easy and fun to make with your kids, too!
Ingredients
- glass jars (mason or any other kind)
- water
- 10-15 drops of pure citronella essential oil.
- 1 lemon
- 1 lime
- 3 sprigs of rosemary
- 1 votive candle
Directions
Slice the lemon and lime, making round circles. Place 2 lemon slices and 2 lime slices into the glass jar along with the rosemary sprigs. Fill with water almost to the top, leaving room for the candle. Drop in essential oils. Take the votive candle out of the small silver disk it comes in, and place on top of the water. Place on an outdoor table, light, and enjoy! Feel free to add different essential oils. Some great options are lavender, lemongrass, peppermint, or any citrus oils. This recipe is just for one jar, but making 3 or more makes for a lovely ambiance and more repellent coverage.
Gabrielle, I have not seen this on pinterest but I will definitely be making a couple.
This is Brilliant!!! I want to keep those bugs away, but I want to create ambiance as well!! My backyard evenings are about to get this dyanmic duo in action. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you, enjoy!
Gabrielle, This is so creative and such a cute idea. Here in Louisiana we are swarmed by mosquitos and this is such an easy way to keep our outdoor space cute and “BITE” free! Thank you
Thank you, good luck!
