August 14

The sun—the beginning of creation, the source of life for all. What an amazingly beautiful and creative gift God has given us! We should not fear it but bask in it. Yes, at this blistering end of summer, I want to promote time in the sun, because, as with every good and beautiful gift, we must honor it.

The benefits of the sun are numerous. Studies have shown safe sun exposure can increase immunity, decrease depression, improve sleep, and even reduce the risk of cancer. Getting morning sun is the best way to take in all those glorious rays. Just a short amount of time in the sun first thing in the morning for five to thirty minutes, depending on your skin sensitivity, is so beneficial. Aim to get in the sun before 11am or after 3pm. For me, this part of my day has become sacred. I usually take the baby, my coffee, and my rosary out on the back patio and start my day with the Son in the sun! I encourage you to take a few moments today to feel the sun on your face with a sense of gratitude and humility.
