Self-Care Saturday – DIY Dry Shampoo

Let’s face it: there are times when it’s impossible to keep up with our—or our youngsters’—personal hygiene. One aspect of this is hair that needs washing but no time to immediately see to it. I’ve tried dry shampoo in the past and found it expensive and smelly, plus it is always white and looks terrible in brown hair. It gives a ghostly look.

I am thrilled that I recently found this DIY dry shampoo, and I am loving it for myself and one of my little girls in particular, who needs a shampooing more often than I can keep up with. I love that it’s simple, inexpensive, and that it’s colored for brunettes’ hair! The cocoa can be left out for blondes, or add just a little to match hair color.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder (leave out or adjust depending on hair color)
  • 1 small “travel-size” toiletry bottle

Directions

Scoop the ingredients into the bottle, close the lid, and shake vigorously until it’s thoroughly blended. Puff it onto oily hair and massage it in, then brush through till the powder is no longer visible. It’s powerful: just a few puffs make a world of difference!
