“Then who can be saved?”
Jesus looked at them and said,
“For human beings it is impossible, but not for God.
All things are possible for God.”
Peter began to say to him,
“We have given up everything and followed you.”
Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands
for my sake and for the sake of the gospel
who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age:
houses and brothers and sisters
and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.” Mk 10: 23-30
“We have given up everything and followed you.” Those words certainly resonate to you as a mother. Prior to Peter saying this to Christ, Christ reminds them that truly to give all He requires is in fact impossible. That should resonate too. How often do you feel you cannot give any more? Not to your family; not to Christ. And yet He assures us that by His grace we can in fact lay down our lives and follow Him. Perhaps you tire in giving your body; perhaps you have given your career and in doing so money your family could use. You give your heart, mind and strength to your family and in turn to Christ. Jesus speaks to you today when He says that all you have given up will be returned to you “a hundred time more.” He longs to give to His children and your sacrifice is not unseen. God will not be outdone in generosity and all you have given, all you continue to give will be rewarded here and especially in heaven.
PRAYER: Lord help me to have an eternal perspective. Help me not to consider all I have sacrificed but rather all you have given. May I truly give my life for you and for your glory so that I may spend an eternity with you rejoicing in my salvation and the salvation of my children. AMEN
