This dough is easy to make and handles remarkably well. Rolling, cutting, and shaping cookies provides a heartwarming, hands-on activity for family fun, and it’s a lovely way to celebrate Epiphany. Taking down decorations becomes a much happier event when you can smell cookies baking in the oven!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Cream the butter and sugar. Next, beat in egg and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and add to wet mix. Chill dough for 3 hours before rolling. Preheat oven to 350˚. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 7-10 minutes. Decorate with icing as desired.
