DIY Foot Scrub

March 21

I decided to put this recipe together after reflecting on Jesus washing the disciples’ feet. It is so humbling to think about washing someone’s feet. I do not like feet for some reason, not even my own. I can do baby feet, but that’s it, definitely not men’s feet who wore only thin sandals and walked everywhere. When I think about the love and care Jesus showed in this action, I am moved with compassion at how he teaches by this simple and gentle gesture. I plan to treat my family members to a relaxing ‘foot washing’ this Lent using my foot scrub. It will be a good way to teach my children about this event in the journey of Jesus to the cross and a test to see who squirms more—my husband or I. This foot scrub is luxurious, easy to make, and smells amazing. There is something so calming and relaxing that comes with having clean feet, especially after a long day. It is literally a way to wash the day away and start anew.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup oil (coconut is my favorite)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • ½ teaspoon real vanilla extract
  • 15 drops pure lavender essential oil
  • Glass jar

Directions

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, then transfer to an airtight container. Apply to feet (or really anywhere), and rub in gently. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off, and pat dry with a towel. Try to use it within a month or so.
