With the start of the school year quickly approaching, I have been making and mixing all my go-to essential oil DIY’s for this new season. My ‘beat the bugs’ spray (because lice isn’t a fun word) is a must! My sweet girl has long curls and loves to wear her hair down with headbands. If it were up to me, her hair would always be in a neat, tight bun to avoid any crawling friends that could come home from school.
Tea tree and lavender are the powerful essential oils behind this preventative spray; they help to protect and soothe. Tea tree also boasts natural antimicrobial and insecticide properties. The recipe is super easy to make, will help tame bed head, and also has a clean, uplifting smell! I love using this natural, safe, nontoxic spray to support a clean hair homecoming.
I spray my daughter’s hair around the scalp all the way to the ends, then brush through it, usually while eating breakfast or brushing teeth. It’s a quick step that can easily be added to your morning routine.
Directions
- 2 oz glass spray bottle
- 10 drops pure tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia) essential oil
- 5 drops pure lavender essential oil
- 1 tsp carrier oil (coconut oil or jojoba oil)
Mix all the ingredients together, then fill the remainder of the bottle with water, or add in a little leave-in-conditioner if you would like. Shake before each use.
